Dr. Rutherford’s office has been ranked in the top one percent of dental practices nationwide! He has been interviewed several times on local television, and has been heard on the radio for the past 20 years talking about the latest that dentistry has to offer. He has been a frequent contributor to the Odessa American. In fact, Dr. Rutherford was voted the "Best Dentist in Odessa" by the Odessa American Readers' Choice poll. An extensive article was recently written and Dr. Rutherford appeared on the front cover of the Permian Basin Pulse magazine. Dr. Rutherford was also featured in Consumer Research Council’s “Guide to Americas Top Dentists” in 2004, 2008, and again in 2009.

Dr. Rutherford has trained with some of the leading dentists and top experts in the fields of sedation, dental implants, and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Rutherford maintains an extensive program of advanced study, having over 400 hours of such continuing education in the past 3 years alone. (By contrast, dentists in Texas are required to attend only 12 hours per year.)

Dr. Rutherford grew up on the shores of Lake LBJ in central Texas, lettering in tennis and graduating as Valedictorian of Marble Falls High School. After graduating from Texas A&M with honors, he attended the University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio, finishing in the top quarter of his class shortly before it was ranked as the number one dental school in the nation.

Dr. Rutherford is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Orthodontic Society. He also is a Fellow of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, an honor achieved by fewer than 2% of sedation dentists, and mentors other dentists in sedation techniques. He is also a Fellow of the American Dental Implant Association, a level awarded to fewer than 5 % of its member dentist.

His wife Vicki, is a pharmacist. They have one son, Bryan, who is part of "Teach for America", a national program which places teachers in underserved areas. He teaches 8th grade Algebra in Oakland, California.

In his spare time, Dr. Rutherford enjoys fishing, reading, water sports, softball, tennis, and is very active in his church.
