Last Thursday Sheila began her smile transformation journey. Sheila had a few upper teeth prepped for full porcelain bridges and her other upper teeth prepped for full porcelain crowns. Dr. Rutherford also had to perform one root canal, but sedation dentistry was utilized so Sheila didn’t feel a thing. Texas has just changed the law, now allowing our hygienists to use lasers to treat periodontal (gum) disease. In addition to the usual cleaning of the tooth surface in the “pocket” below the gum line, we can now use a special low-power laser the size of a big Sharpie marker to painlessly remove bacteria and the inner lining of the pocket. We just finished treating a patient whose teeth had always been very dark.
