Last Thursday Sheila began her smile transformation journey. Sheila had a few upper teeth prepped for full porcelain bridges and her other upper teeth prepped for full porcelain crowns. Texas has just changed the law, now allowing our hygienists to use lasers to treat periodontal (gum) disease. In addition to the usual cleaning of the tooth surface in the “pocket” below the gum line, we can now use a special low-power laser the size of a big Sharpie marker to painlessly remove bacteria and the inner lining of the pocket. One of the common problems I see is in patients who have worn down their teeth. The fronts are flat on the edge and are shorter than they used to be.
